PROJECT „INTEGRATION’S ABC” AT THE RIGA LATVIAN SOCIETY – FOR THE PROMOTING OF INTEGRATION PROCESSES

At present, when questions about integration and its processes are becoming more and more topical, Riga Latvian Society gives its contribution in its promotion, to give knowledge and to educate. For, already, third year the Society actively participates in EU supported programmes by implementing projects that offer education programmes, stimulate integration processes and promote understanding between different nations’, culture and religion representatives. The Riga Latvian Society offers an interesting project that takes place from January 2 to June 30, 2013 “Integration’s ABC” during which the non-citizens are welcome to wide activities – specialists’ – lawyer, psychologist, social worker consultations, informative days in Jelgava, Daugavpils, Ventspils and Riga, 3 free study programmes to prepare for the naturalization exam, workshop for the children and cultural programmes at the Riga Latvian Society and in Vermane Park.

CREATIVE WORKS COMPETITION „I LIVE IN LATVIA”

The Riga Latvian Society is organizing the creative works competition „I Live in Latvia” for the young people, whose native country is Latvia or to whom Latvia has become the second motherland or home. The aim of the competition is to promote the interest about Latvian history and culture, form understanding about the national identity questions and promote young people to positive attitude towards their land, wish to solve its economic and social problems, to express one’s opinion in the creative way, explain and defend it during the communication with the society.

All Latvian schools are welcome to participate actively in the competition by creating an opportunity to present themselves in Latvia and Europe. The most responsive school representatives will be able to present their schools during different events, where Latvian government’s and European Commission’s secretariat’s representatives in Latvia will participate. Schools’ representatives will be invited to the European Day’s event “Me in Europe” and event “Festival for all generations” at Vermane Park on June 8. Youngsters at the age of 14 – 19 years can participate in the competition. The works should be submitted via electronic way by sending them to the e-mail: gaida.jablovska@rlb.lv.

The form of the competition work is at choice. It can be an essay, short story, poetry, play, etc. The work should lay out the processes of Latvian history, culture, social and economic life, self-experience or vision of Latvia’s future: suggestions and proposals. Deadline for submitting is March 31, 2013. 

The creative work competition will finish on May 9, 2013, when the winners will be awarded. The best work authors will receive prizes from the Riga Council, gift cards, the opportunity to go to the 2 day free excursion around Latvia and valuable books. The best works will receive also incentive prizes and sympathy prizes. The main prize is tour to Brussels.

COMICS PAINTING TO PROMOTE AND UNDERSTAND THE NATURALIZATION PROCESSES OR EVERYONE CAN BECOME THE WORLDWIDE KNOWN COMICS AUTHOR!

From January 22 to March 30, 2013, the Riga Latvian Society offers interesting and creative workshop for children and youth. Children and youth are not only acquiring comics painting, but also in informal atmosphere are learning Latvian language, culture and traditions, and the use of contemporary technology in creative processes.

During the workshop the participants will make the video-clip from their own made comics paintings by using the contemporary multimedia technologies and will play the situations painted, becoming the actors themselves, who will be seen by all the world, as the made comics paintings and video-clips will be published on the internet, and the records will be sent to the embassies in Latvia and abroad.

During the lessons children and youth will be invited to make a sketch, using ideas and characters from paintings and reflecting integration opportunities.

Paintings will be summarized in 3 languages: Latvian, English and Russian. They will serve as a guide to the understanding of the naturalization processes and, at the same time, as a help to acquire Latvian language.

The workshops take place twice a week – on Tuesdays from 17.00 – 19.00 and on Saturdays from 13.00 – 15.00. Children and youth and all the interests are welcome!

The workshop teachers are two active painters Kaspars Bçrziňđ and Andris Stripkâns.

CONSULTATIONS, INFORMATIVE DAYS AND CULTURAL PROGRAMMES 

Everyone has opportunity to receive valuable advices on topical questions by visiting specialist consultations – lawyer, psychologist and social worker on Sundays at the Riga Latvian Society.

Important and interesting activities will be the informative days in Latvia that will include consultations, round table discussions, naturalization workshop and event for families “Flow, Flow the Language”. Informative days will take place in Jelgava on April 5 and 6, in Daugavpils on April 19 and 20, Ventspils on May 17 and 18, and in Riga on June 7 and 8.
 
During the project will be offered wide and varied event programmes. During the Europe Day on May 9, at the Riga Latvian Society will take place the event “Me in Europe”, in its turn on June 8 everyone will be invited to the event “Festival for all generations” in Vermane Park and celebrate together Ligo event “Summer Solstice” on June 15 in Vermane Park.

COURSES FOR NON-CITIZENS

Riga Latvian Society welcomes all non-citizens, who wish to obtain Latvian citizenship, to 3 courses that will be free of charge – Latvian language, Latvian culture and integration processes. The participants will obtain valuable knowledge in all 3 programmes that are necessary during the naturalization process to pass successfully naturalization exam and obtain Latvian citizenship. 

Integration process study programme includes Latvian history, basic laws, state’s government structure and social issues. The participants will acquire Latvian traditions, theatre elements in mutual communication and colloquial speech knowledge. Latvian language courses are organized so that its acquirers could use the Latvian language of full value as a mean of communication in speaking and writing.
