Children and youth creative works’ exhibition in the NGO House

In the middle of June, a few days before Ligo night, the NGO House premises were ornamented with beautiful decorations – children and youth visual art works were placed in the house premises. In the exhibition have been united creative works that have been made with special love, sincerity and diligence. The exhibition consists of works from the creative work competition “Me and My Motherland” that took place in winter and spring and Strazdumuiža Boarding school - development centre for the visually impaired and blind children paintings that display themes from the musical comedy’s “Bastien and Bastienne” plot.

UNITY IS OUR On June 1, 2014 the Riga Latvian Society started to implement the project “Unity is our strength”, the project will last till May 31, 2015.

On June 20 the Riga Latvian Society organised cleanups to clean up the surroundings of graves of the cultural workers, who have been connected with the Society’s history and other important culturally historical places.

“POPULAR together with a friend!”- creative workshop, activities and mini festival for children and youth

The Riga Latvian Society and creative association for youth “TREPES” are organising workshops, activities and mini festival for children and youth from June to August 2014. The title of the educational and creative events’ cycle is “POPULAR together with a friend!” and its main aim is to promote children and youth to spend their free time actively and thoughtfully. The opening event of the cycle will take place on June 26, at 14.00 in the Voluntary Participation House in Mūkusalas Street 72, 3d floor.

The Riga Latvian Society’s Music Commission invites Riga citizens and its guests to honor with presence the concert devoted to the Communist Genocide victims on June 14, at 18.00 in the Gold Hall. In the programme – cantata of Lūcija Garūta and Andrejs Eglītis – Latvian prayer “God, Thy Earth is Aflame!” - meditation for organ.

The premiere was for Mozart’s musical comedy “Bastien and Bastienne” in the Riga Latvian Society Big Hall. In the staging participate soloists - Jolanta Strikaite, Juris Vizbulis, Viesturs Vītols, Strazdumuiža Boarding school’s - development centre’s for the visually impaired and blind children vocal ensemble (leaders Iveta Zvaigzne and Irēna Ozoliņa), Riga Latvian Society children vocal studio’s “Knīpas and Knauķi” group’s “Wagtails” singers and Jāzeps Mediņš’ Riga 1st Music School’s chamber orchestra ARMONICO. Staging’s musical leader and conductor - Normunds Dreģis, director - Dace Pūce, stage designer – Oskars Dreģis, costume designer - Linda Lagzdiņa.

On Thursday, May 22 at 14.00 the concluding event and the awarding of the winners of the creative works’ competition “Me and my motherland” will take place in the Riga Latvian Society House Ligo Hall. During the event winners - pupils and their teachers will be awarded. The participants with musical performances will greet folklore group “Kokle” and ensemble “Vesņanka”. During the event the interesents will be able to see the exhibition of all participants.

Campaign “Breath GREEN!” ends!

On Thursday, 15th May will end the society’s informing campaign “Breath GREEN!” At two o’clock in the afternoon all participants and interested people are welcome to the campaign’s conclusion event that will take place in the Latvian Blind Society’s Strazdumuiža club in Riga, Pāles Street 14/3. The event will start actively and greenly with the clean of the surrounding environment. Later at 15.30 the concert will start and everybody will see the retrospect to the main activities in video materials and photos, after that testimonials will be given to the most active campaign’s participants and the afternoon will conclude with conversations over a cup of tea.

Discussions about opportunities to combine career, work and family life

At the end of April the representatives from the Riga Latvian Society, Creative Association for Youth „TREPES” and Strazdumuiža Boarding School - development centre for the visually impaired and blind children went to experience change trip to Norway. The trip, which main aim was acquaintance with non-governmental organisations’ in Norway work and experience, was organised in the framework of the project “Let’s Open the World for Opportunities and Skills”.
