WHAT IS CRETIVE WOTK COMPETITION „ME AND MY MOTHERLAND?”
Riga Latvian Society in the framework of the project „Let’s Open the World for Opportunities and Skills” is organising creative work competition “Me and My Motherland”, where to participate are invited children and youth at age from 14 to 19 years. To participate in the competition are specially invited children with disabilities and children and youth living abroad.
By participating in these activities, the participants extend their horizon, improve their language style and raise their self-confidence. The event complex stimulates children and youth to positive attitude towards their country, its economic and social problems, to express their opinion in creative work and defend it in communication with the society.
The creative work competition is organised in two rounds. The first round ended in spring 2014. The second round is being started together with the new school year and children are invited to hand in their works in September and October. The same as in spring round also this time the works will be evaluated in two categories: written work and visual art work. In second – autumn round work themes are "Me and my friends, my environment” or “Me and my Latvia’s future”.
COMPETITION’S RULES
Second round’s competition participants should hand in the creative work about theme “Me and my friends, my environment” or “Me and my Latvia’s future”. The competition takes part in 2 nominations – written work or visual arts work.
The form of the written work is free – it can be an essay, literary work (short story, poetry, play, etc.). In the work should be revealed the author’s personal attitude towards the described event, problem, use of language means should be purposeful, the work should include used source list (also internet sources).
Visual arts work should be submitted in freely chosen technique in A3 or A4 format.
We invite participate youth at the age from 14 to 19 years, who learn in schools of general education, minority schools, boarding schools, special schools, as well as learns at home.
The participants will be divided in two age groups: 14-16 years old and 17-19 years old youth (or 7-9 form pupils and 10-12 form pupils).
The submitted works will be evaluated by jury of 3 persons, inviting 2 voluntary specialists, if necessary.
Competition’s works will be evaluated at the end of each competition part and 3 the best works from the both age groups will be brought forward to awarding.: 1st place EUR 30; 2nd place EUR 20, third place EUR 10.
Creative work competition will end with an educational, literary and musical event, where:
The winners of the competition will receive valuable books from different book publishers that support the activity by donating books.
Children and youth, who will show an outstanding result, will receive special prizes – gift cards in value of EUR 50.
Competition’s first place acquirers (8 participants) will make the film „Me and my Motherland”.
The authors of the best works will have opportunity to meet Latvian State higher officials.
The proceedings of the competition will be disclosed in the Riga Latvian Society home page. The RLS has rights to publish each round’s winners’ works at the home-page.
Written work’s size: to 6 000 symbols (age group from 14 to 16 years), to 8 000 symbols (age group from 17 to 19 years).
The work should be submitted in Latvian in printed form.
The work should include the following information about the author: Name, surname, year of birth, e-mail and phone number, learning institution, form, as well as learning institution’s address, teacher – consultant’s name and surname, e-mail address and phone number.
Term of the submitting is October 27, 2014.
The written work with a reference „To contest „Me and my Motherland”” should be submitted electronically. The work is submitted, when the author receives the confirmation about work’s receiving. E-mail: gaida.jablovska@rlb.lv
