Press conference: Finno-Ugric Days 2016 in Latvia

     At 16:00, on 14 September 2016, there is a press conference at Riga Latvian Society, Merķeļa Street 13 to inform about the coming international event – Finno-Ugric Days 2016 in Latvia.      
       They will start on 30 September at Cēsis History and Art Museum and at Riga Estonian Primary School, while their closing day is on 2 October in Ventspils at the Castle of the Livonian Order. The main activities of the varied festivity of program will take place at Riga Latvian Society on 1 October from 10:00 to 20:00.  At the opening ceremony of the event, guests and ambassadors of Finno-Ugric countries (Estonia, Finland and Hungary) will address the participants. The international conference ‘The Mythical and Magic Heritage of the Finno-Ugric Nations’ will be mentored by Janīna Kursīte-Pakule, Dr.Phil., lecturers from Estonia, Finland, Hungary and Latvia will present their reports on the topic.  
     The event will also offer an exhibition of handicraft items as well as a show of graphic art by the Livonian graphic artist Baiba Damberga and program of documentaries about the culture of Finno-Ugric people. 
      The festivity program will acquaint the participants with the Livonian culture and historical heritage. They will also be offered a number of interactive workshops – a class in Livonian, traditional crafts and arts, traditional Finno-Ugric singing and dancing together with folk musicians and dancers.   
      The rich and varied festivity program is largely supported by its main cooperation partner Association Fenno - Ugria (Estonia) bringing to Riga and its guests the Finno-Ugric culture program to present the art of craftsmen, traditional music and dance as well as folklore experts. The embassies of Hungary and Finland will assist by sponsoring the visiting lecturers of the conference from these countries. Organized by: Riga Latvian Society in cooperation with the B/O Fenno – Ugria (Estonia), Līvõd Īt /Livonian Union and embassies of Estonia, Hungary and Finland.
