Hay dolls and games in the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum

On Sunday, August 31 in the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia from 12:00 to 16:00 took place the Game Day. Seeing off summer holidays and receiving beginning of school year, the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum invited children and adults to participate in different old and nowadays games and plays, to make toys and play all day long.

Games and plays are a century old way how to introduce children with nature processes and world of things, promoting mental and physical development of children.

In the Moor yard in the Riga Latvian Society Folklore Commission’s “Sprīdītis School’s” made master classes the visitors had opportunity to make hay dolls together with Margita Poriete and Daiga Kļaviņa, to define the made bird species together with the ornithologist Jānis Brikmanis, participate in Aiga’s Auziņa’s music workshop and Ernests Spīčs’ old handicraft game workshops. Children had opportunity to play the fairytale about Sprīdītis with their own made dolls and actively participate in different performance activities.

The Riga Latvian Society continues to maintain the project “Stand hard, Work Bravely” that takes place in the framework of the programme of the European Economic Area’s Financial Mechanism of the period 2009 – 2014 „NGO Fund” subprogramme „Non-Governmental Organisations’ Activities’ Support Programme”.
