Guntis Gailītis, the Riga Latvian Society’s Chairman (1949)

The director, social and cultural worker Guntis Gailītis is born on February 11, 1949 in Līgatne. G.Gailītis has studied production (diploma in 1975 and 1980) at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and education and psychology at the University of Latvia (2005). From 1975 to 2006 he worked at the Latvian National Opera. During this time G.Gailītis implemented more than 50 opera stagings. Since 1983 he has been working as a lecturer at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. G.Gailītis has been the director for more than 500 cultural events, festivals and concerts. From 2006 G.Gailītis has been leading the Riga Monuments Agency. G.Gailītis is the officer of the Order of the Three Stars (2002).

From 2002 Guntis Gailītis has been the member of the Riga Latvian Society, has been actively participating in the Society’s life, has been working in the RLS Council and Board, and on August 3, 2011 has been elected as a Chairman of the Riga Latvian Society.
